NEXUS LEARNING SERVICES
Helping students reclaim their joy for learning

No parent wants to see their child struggle. We do not offer typical tutoring services because children who are having difficulty do not need a quick fix. They need to understand their strengths and difficulties in order to be successful. Our goal is to provide students with research-based strategies and tools to better understand themselves and their challenges. We also provide support and coaching to help parents better understand their child's needs.

We can help whether or not your child has an official diagnosis. All strategies and tools are tailored to meet the child's individual needs.

ABOUT US
Meighan
I am a teacher and have always been passionate about working with students with learning difficulties. Once I finished my bachelor's degree in education, I decided to pursue a master's degree in Educational Psychology in order to better prepare myself for the realities of today's inclusive classrooms. I spent several years working with special needs students in the classroom setting. It has been a very rewarding career so far, but I have decided to shift my focus to helping students with learning difficulties outside of the classroom. Every student can be successful, we just need to work together to make sure that their needs are being met in order to set them up for success.
As a parent, I know that we are always searching for ways to help our children. We read books, seek advice and take courses, but they often do not give us the hands on strategies and tools we need to make a difference. It is also not always easy to navigate the school system and advocate for services, so my objective is to empower parents and students alike by helping them understand their strengths and weaknesses and provide hands on strategies and tools for success.

My Son is in grade three, and was having major difficulties learning to read. Trying was not the issue, he just couldn’t get it and was falling further and further behind his classmates, his confidence was really lacking. The teachers had mentioned that we should have him evaluated for distractibility, he was also put on an IEP in grade one. I never quite understood what the IEP was all about; it was the same document that we signed every year. No one really explained it to us, I was just told that it would ensure that my son would have access to additional resources if he needed them. We heard about Nexus Learning from a family friend and decided to give it a try. Meighan is amazing, she took the time to answer all my questions, and went through my son’s IEP, she told me not to sign it until she added what my son would need to succeed. Once she met us, she did not see any distractibility, but yes, he was struggling to read the basics, so we were going to focus on reading. She also listed out many items for his IEP that would help him, the school took some time to review, but they agreed to the items added. Meighan has helped so much, my son loves going to see her and has no problem reading and working for a 1 hour session. To try and do homework and reading at home for 1 hour straight would be impossible. His grades have improved drastically in the 6 months that we have been seeing Meighan. Where he was once failing and averaging40% to 50%, he is much closer to the class average between 68% and 70%. She always makes the sessions fun, and has new tools, different ways of learning that he understands. She has given him his confidence back, and he is catching up to his peers. I don’t know where we would be without Nexus Learning.Miss meighan has become part of our village and I will continue to use nexus learning for the foreseeable future and with both kids.

We cannot be happier with our decision to start with Nexus Learning. My son has never been to daycare and I was worried that he wouldn't be able to integrate into regular school. We were referred to Nexus Learning and since starting 9 months ago I've noticed an improvement with listening, follow instructions, academia, and emotion management. Miss Meighan has become part of our village and I will continue to use Nexus Learning for the foreseeable future and with both kids. Not only have they helped with what was discussed at the beginning of our meetings, they have also offered to help should we wish to go the alternative route of homeschooling. I could not be happier and I recommend them to anyone.
